Abstract

The term “high-needs baby,” introduced by Dr. William Sears, is widely used among parents searching for explanations for their infants’ distress. However, this is not a recognized medical diagnosis, is absent from any official disease classification system, and lacks scientific validation. We present the case of a 9-month-old infant initially labeled as a high-needs baby who was later diagnosed with reflux esophagitis. This case highlights the risks of non-clinical labeling and underscores the importance of thorough medical evaluation in infants presenting with persistent symptoms.
