Abstract

The backbone of this paper focuses on a selection of letters written by Erasmus to the monk Servatius Rogerus and one addressed to his friend Jacob Batt. By way of introduction, I address the theoretical principles that Erasmus elaborates in his work De Conscribendis Epistulis, with the aim of showing the coherence of this humanist between his didactic proposal and the elaboration of his letters. I then go on to identify the sources that the Dutch humanist uses both explicitly and implicitly in his correspondence.
